Surreal psychedelic painting

Shout out to consciousness for simultaneously chattering my mundane, daily to-do’s while all these curious forms were emerging from outer galaxies in my brain.

I’m defenseless against color. Attempts to limit the palette are futile. Colors  continually yank at my brush, pulling it toward them like gravity.

THE EXPANDING VALVE
felt like an apt name for this series. It borrows from Aldous Huxley’s idea of the “reducing valve," the brain’s filtering mechanism that limits sensory information — often to a mundane trickle — for the purpose of our survival.

Just as mystics use meditation and psychedelics to dilate the valve of consciousness, artists expand their perception through the act of creation.

(And yes, artists also use meditation & drugs — hopefully more of the former).
